App Store: WhatsApp criticizes Apple's new transparency rules on data usage

WhatsApp criticizes Apple for not applying new transparency rules to its own apps

WhatsApp has come up against future Rules of the App Store. In an effort to strengthen privacy and transparency of the proposed applications, Apple will introduce new rules for developers regarding the use of data.

Starting with version 14.3 of iOS, all apps will need to tell users what personal data is being collected and for what use. For each application, a listing listing how data is managed will be displayed, reports 01net.

Apple apps exempt?

Developers will have to fill out three tables: one on the type of data collected to track the user on other platforms, a second on the data recorded by the application and a third on the information used and analyzed anonymously. For WhatsApp, this new rule is unfair.

Facebook-owned messaging accuses Apple of not submitting its own apps to the new system. The Apple brand responded that all apps, including its own, will have to provide this new information. The case remains with pre-installed applications such as iMessage. According to Apple, users will find the same information on a "privacy" page on its website.

A distorted idea of the data collected

WhatsApp also criticizes the vocabulary chosen by Apple to account for the data collected by the apps. To streamline its listing, Apple would have chosen overly broad terms such as "financial data" according to WhatsApp, which provides a payment service in some countries.

The inability to provide details of this collection is considered problematic by the Facebooksubsidiary. This could give users misconceptions and make them suspicious. The new transparency policy is expected to be put in place on Monday. All the requested information is available on Apple's developer website.

Apple: Lightning charging cable could disappear from iPhone boxes

Apple conducts a customer survey to see if they still use cable provided with iPhone 12

There are no small savings inApple'seyes. After marketing its iPhone 12 without a charger, the US giant could also remove the USB-C to Lightning charging cable from its boxes, reports PhonAndroid.

The charging cable is the only bulky accessory still provided with iPhones. Apple is looking to reduce the size of its boxes by limiting accessories, in order to save on transportation and thus reduce its carbonfootprint.

A survey on accessories

Cable removal has not yet been implemented, but it appears that the Cupertino firm is trying to figure out if it is useful to consumers. According to 9To5Mac relayed by Phonandroid, Apple sent a questionnaire to its customers to find out which accessories are most used among those still provided.

Customers can choose between the Apple logo sticker, the SIM card drawer extractor and the Lightning cable. Depending on thesurvey result, Apple could therefore remove the charging cable from its boxes for the future iPhone 13. The company had conducted a similar survey before removing the charger from the boxes of the iPhone 12.

iPhone 11: Apple launches free touchscreen replacement program after recurring bug

People who have already had their iPhone repaired by paying can also get a refund from Apple

After reporting a recurring bug on iPhone 11, Apple decided to launch a free replacement program. Anyone whose smartphone has this problem on the touch screen can benefit, reports 01net.

The bug only applies to classic iPhone 11s and not the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max models. It is due to a malfunction of the phone's display module, a hardware problem that can be solved with the change of a room.

Check your eligibility

According to Apple, a small percentage of iPhones are affected by this bug. The replacement program covers smartphones sold between November 2019 and May 2020. To check if your iPhone is affected, you can go to Apple's support site and enter your phone's serial number. The site will tell you if the program is eligible for the program.

If so, you can drop off your iPhone 11 at an Apple Store or an Apple authorized repair center. In the midst of a health crisis, it is also possible to send your smartphone by post. The U.S. firm recommends a complete backup of the data before repair.

The free replacement program is valid for two years after the purchase date of the device. For those who have already had this replacement done before the program is launched, Apple is committed to reimburse them for the costs incurred.

iOS flaw made it possible to take control of an iPhone over Wi-Fi

Fortunately, this security flaw has been fixed by Apple since the iOS 13.1.1 update rolled out in January 2020

Thanks to a flaw that was present in iPhones, a security researcher has proven that it is possible to take control of any device running on iOS, iPad or iPhone.  Ian Beer, who works for Google Project Zero, posted a video on YouTube showing how his attack was carried out, reports specialist media 01net.

To develop this attack, the security expert went through a flaw found in 2019 in Apple's peer-to-peer network technology called AWDL (Apple Wireless Direct Link).  This is the system for, among other things, users of iOS devices to exchange files with each other through Airdrop.

A flaw repaired by Apple

Once inside this security hole, Ian Beer managed to insert malicious code into the device he was targeting without any intervention from the owner of that iPhone.  Worse, the security specialist managed to transmit this malicious code to about 20 other nearby devices within seconds, as can be seen in the YouTube video he uploaded.

By taking control of these devices, he was able to crash them all very quickly.  If Ian Beer disclosed this attack publicly, it is because this security flaw has been fixed by Apple since January 2020 with the iOS 13.1.1 update.

Apple’s New Macbook Air 2020 Powered by Apple’s own M1 chip | Flash News

Apple’s New Macbook Air 2020 Powered by Apple’s own M1 chip | Flash News

Apple’s New Macbook Air 2020 Powered by Apple’s own M1 chip

The new MacBook Air (2020) was announced at Apple's November 10 presentation. While we already saw the MacBook Air (2020) earlier this year, this new model has some pretty big changes.

This is because, unlike previous models, the new MacBook Air (2020) replaces the Intel processor with Apple's own ARM chip, the new Apple M1. It also comes with macOS 11 Big Sur pre-installed. Apple promises this is the biggest change to macOS in years, and it's built from the ground up to take advantage of the M1 chip in the new MacBook Air (2020).

Apple says this special chip will enable the new MacBook Air (2020) to perform better and last longer on battery life, as well as other significant performance benefits.

All applications that normally run in macOS on Intel-based MacBooks will work fine with the new MacBook Air (2020) thanks to some software tools with Apple's Rosetta tool that allows applications to run on the new architecture.

Apple claims the new MacBook Air is three times faster than other laptops in its class and faster than 98% of PC laptops sold last year. Its neural engine is nine times faster than the previous MacBook Air, and its SSD is twice as fast thanks to the M1 and the latest flash technology.

Plus, with the low-power M1 chip, you don't need a fan to cool it, making it completely silent. In terms of battery life, we knew the new "Apple Silicon" would be more energy efficient, so it's no surprise that the new MacBook Air has the longest battery life of any MacBook Air - up to 15 hours. wireless web browsing or other. up to 18 hours of video, according to Apple.

It all includes a 13-inch Retina display, automatic face recognition, and more. Here's what we know so far about the MacBook Air.

Release date and price

At Apple's launch of the new MacBook Air (2020), the company announced that its refreshed thin and light laptop is now available for purchase, and the devices will begin shipping on November 16.

Prices for the new MacBook Air (2020) start at $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,599. As usual, there are a number of specs available at launch, and you can further tweak them to get the MacBook Air (2020) that best suits your needs and budget.

In comparison, the MacBook Air (2020) released earlier this year was priced at $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,599, which was actually less than the starting price of the MacBook Air (2019).

So you're getting the new MacBook Air (2020) for the same price as the previous model, and that's great news.

The fully enlarged version of the MacBook Air (2020) comes with a 1.2GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 2TB SSD, and is priced at $ 2,249 / £ 2,249 / AU $ 3,349. Will we see a similar high-end configuration for the new MacBook Air?

Specifications

Apple also announced details on the specifications and configurations of the new MacBook Air (2020). The base configuration includes an Apple M1 chip with an 8-core processor and a 7-core GPU, as well as a 16-core Neural Engine. There are 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, and a 13-inch Retina display with True Tone. Touch ID is included and there are two Thunderbolt ports.

Then there is the version with the Apple M1 chip with an 8-core processor and an 8-core GPU. This additional core could significantly impact the graphics performance of the new MacBook Air (2020) Apple has promised it can play modern games, which the MacBook Air really couldn't.
