Donald Trump fires red balls at his own camp

Donald Trump fires red balls at his own camp

USA: Donald Trump fires red balls at his own camp

On Twitter, the US president called Republican leaders "pathetic"

Donald Trump has changed his pain. And the most amazing thing is that he is now mainly attacking his own camp. The U.S. president on Tuesday redoubled his virulence against the tenors of the Republicans, described as "pathetic," sowing a little more trouble in his party in the run-up to two crucial Senate elections.

From his club in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, and just before starting another day of golf, Donald Trump expressed his frustration in a series of particularly virulent tweets. The object of his wrath: the increasingly strong prospect of Congress rejecting its veto of the defense budget, which would be a first since his arrival in the White House.

Senate Republican leader not impressed

"The weak and tired Republican "leadership" will allow the bad defense law to pass," the outgoing president said on Twitter. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell soon made it clear that he would not be impressed by presidential tweets, calling in a message of no confidence to Donald Trump to reject his veto.

Crossing the line on several fronts, Donald Trump has also once again advanced conspiracy theories to deny his defeat to Joe Biden. And once again his targets are in his camp: "The leadership of the Republican Party chooses the path of minimal resistance. Our leaders (not me, of course!) are pathetic. The only thing they know how to do is lose!. The outgoing president, still popular among Republican voters, matched his tweets with a thinly veiled threat to his party's lawmakers." P.S. I have elected many senators and members of the House of Representatives. I think they've forgotten!.

The balance of power at stake

David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler will surely hear it. The two Republican senators are playing their seats on January 5 in two by-elections in Georgia, which captivate the political world. Because with them, the whole balance of power under Joe Biden is at stake. If the two Democratic candidates - Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff - win, Democrats will regain control of the Senate, and hold all the levers of power in Washington.

On paper, Republicans are off to a good start, but Donald Trump's angry recent weeks in the White House have worried the Grand Old Party. His tirades against the electoral system could, among other things, undermine the mobilization of their constituents in Georgia. Finally, the president's unexpected reversals on the plan to help the U.S. economy embarrass Republican senators. With less than a month to go before he leaves office, the conservative camp is increasingly concerned about the scorched earth strategy of the 45th president of the United States.

Before he leaves the presidency of the United States, Donald Trump continues his salvo of graces. The White House announced new pardons or leniency measures by the president on Wednesday. The father of Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner will benefit.

Two figures implicated in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, Paul Manafort, Donald Trump's former campaign manager and his former adviser Roger Stone, are also on the list, released by the US executive. Last July, the Republican president had already commuted the sentence of Roger Stone, his longtime friend, convicted of trying to influence witnesses and lying to Congress as part of the Russia investigation.

"Mr. President, my family and I humbly thank you for this presidential pardon you grant me. Words are not enough to say all our gratitude," Paul Manafort commented on Twitter. He was serving a seven-and-a-half-year sentence for various frauds uncovered as part of prosecutor Mueller's investigation. He had been placed under house arrest in May because of the coronavirusoutbreak.
