Uber stops autonomous car | Uber to sell it's autonomous car division to Aurora
After years of investment and testing, Uber is giving up: the U.S. giant will sell its autonomous car division to Aurora, and will focus on the Meal Delivery Service Uber Eats.
Uber had big ambitions for the autonomous car, but it is clear that the tens of thousands of autonomous taxis promised by the company have still not arrived on the roads. The Covid-19 pandemic has not helped Uber in this activity, nor in passenger transportation for that matter. Fortunately, the Uber Eats business is on the other hand in marked progress and, for the same reasons, has become the giant's first business.
Uber will therefore sell its autonomous car division to Aurora, a young start-up created in 2017 by alumni of Google, Tesla and Uber. Uber will pay $400 million to join the company's board of directors, while taking a 40 percent stake in Aurora.
