Spotify develops AI to detect music plagiarism

The program would be able to analyze a song in real time to compare its similarities with other songs on the music platform.

On Spotify, plagiarism will not pass.  The music platform has developed a program based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect similarities between two pieces of music.  Patents relating to this program have been discovered by the specialized site Music Business Worldwide, reports 01net.  Such a tool could prevent artists from being plagiarized and therefore cheated.

This Spotify AI, which is currently in development, has the ability to decipher a song to compare it with other tracks that are available on the music platform. He could thus identify too obvious similarities.  And all this in real time.

Using AI to compare songs isn't new, according to Music Business Worldwide.  But what appears to be new is to make this comparison in real time.  After its quick analysis, the program would rate the song according to its degree of resemblance to other music.  The songwriter would have this list of songs with similar melodies and could thus modify his score.

As of yet, this program has not been officially launched.  But if it were deployed by Spotify, it could arguably reassure songwriters and avoid many lawsuits.
