Google: Some files will be deleted from inactive accounts from 2023
From June 2023, Google will delete files without warning
Google announced last November:
cleaning will be done on the accounts of the most inactive users . A Gmail, Drive or Google Photos account that would not be used at least once in two years could lose some files.
These users could indeed lose data stored on these services, Google warned in an email sent on Wednesday. "If you don't use Gmail,Drive or Photos for two years (24 months), we're likely to delete your content," reads the email relayed by Numerama.
Data deleted without warning from 2023
But the American giant decided to be considerate. Regular warnings will be issued in advance from June 1, 2021 before any content is removed. But as of June 1, 2023, accounts that have been inactive for at least two years could have their data deleted without warning.
Preventing such a situation is simple. Just log on to one of the Google services associated with your account, whether it's on the web or via an app. Numerama specifies that the operation will have to be repeated for each service of the American giant on which files were stored so as not to lose them.
